Taxonomy
Mactra elongata was named by Quoy and Gaimard (1834) [TYPE LOCALITY: New Zealand, Recent.]. It is extant. It is the type species of Longimactra.

It was recombined as Longimactra elongata by Finlay (1928) and Marwick (1960).
