Venus erycina was named by Linnaeaus (1758) [TYPE LOCALITY: Indo-Pacific, Early Miocene-Recent.]. It is extant. It is the type species of Costacallista.
It was recombined as Dione erycina by Reeve (1864); it was recombined as Cytherea erycina by Noetling (1901); it was recombined as Callista erycina by Cossmann (1924); it was recombined as Costacallista erycina by Palmer (1926) and Woodring (1982); it was recombined as Macrocallista erycina by Cox (1927) and Mukerjee (1939); it was recombined as Callista (Costacallista) erycina by Tiwari and Kachhara (2003).
