Microdoma was named by Meek and Worthen (1867) [Sepkoski's age data: D Emsi P Guad-l Sepkoski's reference number: 109,362,797]. Its type is Microdoma conica. It is the type genus of Microdomatinae, Microdomatidae.
It was assigned to Archaeogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); to Microdomatinae by Bouchet et al. (2005); and to Microdomatidae by Knight et al. (1960) and Nützel and Ketwetsuriya (2016).
