Microgaza was named by Dall (1881) [Sepkoski's age data: T Plio R Sepkoski's reference number: 1231]. It is extant. Its type is Microgaza rotella.
It was assigned to Margaritinae by Perrilliat (1972); to Trochidae by Ladd (1982) and Todd (2001); and to Archaeogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002).
