Nassa moraniana was named by Martin (1914) [TYPE LOCALITY: Bolinas Bay, California; Merced Fm (Late Pliocene).]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is UCMP loc. 1549, Bolinas Bay, which is in a Pliocene marine horizon in California.
It was recombined as Alectrion moranianus by Carson (1925); it was recombined as Nassarius (Schizopyga) moranianus by Grant and Gale (1931) and Grant and Gale (1959); it was recombined as Nassarius moranianus by Hertlein (1951); it was recombined as Nassarius (Caesia) moranianus by Addicott (1965); it was recombined as Caesia moraniana by Hendy (2020).
