Shuvosauridae was named by Chatterjee (1993). Its type is Shuvosaurus. It was considered monophyletic by Nesbitt (2011).

It was reranked as the unranked clade Shuvosauridae by Nesbitt (2011).

It was assigned to Ornithomimosauria by Chatterjee (1993); to Poposauroidea by Nesbitt (2011); and to Suchia by Carrano (2023).
