Omospira was named by Ulrich and Scofield (1897) [Sepkoski's age data: O Cara-l O Cara-m]. It is not extant. Its type is Omospira laticincta.

It was assigned to Raphistomidae by Ulrich and Scofield (1897); to Archaeogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); to Loxonematidae by Bouchet et al. (2005); and to Omospirinae by Knight et al. (1960) and Wagner (2023).
