Hyolithes laevigatus was named by Linnarsson (1871). It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Hyolithus laevigatus by Linnarsson (1871); it was recombined as Torellella laevigatus by Brock and Cooper (1993); it was recombined as Torellella laevigata by Holm (1893), Landing (1988) and Skovsted (2006).
