Taxonomy
Pinna peracuta was named by Shumard and Swallow (1858) [Shumard in Shumard & Swallow].

It was recombined as Pteronites peracuta by Hoare et al. (1979); it was recombined as Aviculopinna peracuta by Yancey (1978), Kues (1995) and Anelli et al. (2006).
