Taxonomy
Pareoridae was named by Finlay and Marwick (1937). It is extant. Its type is Pareora.

It was reranked as the subfamily Pareorinae by Pacaud and Le Renard (1995), Allmon (1996), Stilwell et al. (2004) and Bouchet et al. (2005).

It was assigned to Cerithiacea by Finlay and Marwick (1937) and Beu et al. (1990); and to Turritellidae by Pacaud and Le Renard (1995), Allmon (1996), Stilwell et al. (2004) and Bouchet et al. (2005).
