Parasorex was named by von Meyer (1865). It is not extant.

It was synonymized subjectively with Galerix by Van Valen (1967).

It was assigned to Galericinae by Butler (1980) and van den Hoek Ostende (2001); and to Galericini by Lopatin (2006).
