Arca antiquata was named by Linnaeus (1758) [m. kosnik taxon no: 9695]. It is extant. It is the type species of Anadara.

It was recombined as Arca (Arca) antiquata by Oostingh (1935); it was recombined as Anadara antiquata by Cox (1936) and Jung (1965); it was recombined as Arca (Anadara) antiquata by Abrard (1946); it was recombined as Anadara (Anadara) antiquata by Woodring (1973), Skwarko (1994) and van den Hoek Ostende et al. (2002).
