Turbo pica was named by Linnaeus (1758) [DISTRIBUTION: Pleistocene-Recent; Caribbean.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Cittarium picum by Woodring et al. (1924); it was recombined as Livona pica by Weisbord (1962); it was recombined as Cittarium pica by Philippi (1847), Rosenberg (2005) and Hendy et al. (2008).
