Taxonomy
Platyceras was named by Conrad (1840) [Sepkoski's age data: O Cara-l Tr Anis Sepkoski's reference number: 797]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Platyceratidae.

It was assigned to Capulidae by Ulrich and Scofield (1897); to Archaeogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Platyceratidae by Hall (1859), Knight et al. (1960) and Bouchet et al. (2005).
