Patella barbadensis was named by Gmelin (1791) [DISTRIBUTION: Pleistocene-Recent; Caribbean.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Fissuridea barbadensis by Woodring et al. (1924); it was recombined as Fissurella barbadensis by Hendy et al. (2008).
