Pleurotoma cerinum was named by Kurtz and Stimpson (1851). It is extant.

It was recombined as Mangilia cerina by Richards (1962); it was recombined as Kurtziella (Kurtziella) cerina by Woodring (1970); it was recombined as Kurtziella cerina by Hendy et al. (2008).
