Craspedostoma (Ploconema) was named by Perner (1903) [Sepkoski's age data: D Sieg Sepkoski's reference number: 362]. Its type is Ploconema protendens.

It was Cyclonema (Ploconema) by Knight et al. (1960); it was reranked as Ploconema by Sepkoski (2002) and Wagner (2017).
