Pleurotoma albida was named by Perry (1811) [DISTRIBUTION: Miocene-Pliocene; Caribbean.]. It is extant. It is the type species of Polystira.

It was recombined as Pleurotoma (Hemipleurotoma) albida by Martin (1904); it was recombined as Turris albida by Maury (1917), Olsson (1922), Mansfield (1925), Hanna (1926), Weisbord (1929) and Anderson (1929); it was recombined as Turris (Polystira) albida by Oinomikado (1939); it was recombined as Pleuroliria (Polystira) albida by Woodring (1970); it was recombined as Polystira albida by Woodring (1928), DuBar (1958), Landau and Marques da Silva (2010) and Todd and Johnson (2013).
