Pleurotoma plicosa was named by Adams (1850) [DISTRIBUTION: Pleistocene-Recent; Western Atlantic.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Mangilia plicosa by Richards (1962); it was recombined as Pyrgocythara plicosa by Rosenberg (2005) and Hendy et al. (2008).
