Euphanerops was named by Woodward (1900). It is not extant. Its type is Euphanerops longaevus. It is the type genus of Euphaneropidae.
It was assigned to Euphaneropidae by Hay (1902); and to Petromyzontiformes by Gess et al. (2006).
