Spalax sotirisi was named by de Bruijn et al. (1970). It is not extant. Its type specimen is IVAU Ma-1286 mandible dext with m1m2, a mandible.

H. de Bruijn et al. 1970 | Medium sized Spalax. Littel-worn m1 and m2 are characterized by two labial and two lingual re-entrant folds. The anterior lingual re-entrant fold in m2 of the holotype reaches the anterior limit of this tooth. The labial re-entrant folds of M1 become enamel islands at about the same stage of wear. |
