Mytoniinae was named by Robinson (1968). It is not extant. Its type is Mytonius.

It was reranked as the subtribe Mytoniina by Szalay (1976) and Gunnell (1995).

It was assigned to Omomyidae by Robinson (1968); to Omomyini by Szalay (1976); and to Ourayiini by Gunnell (1995).
