Taxonomy
Felis (Pseudaelurus) intrepidus was named by Leidy (1858). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Niobrara River (coll. Hayden 1857), which is in a Barstovian/Clarendonian terrestrial horizon in the Loup Fork Formation of Nebraska.
It was recombined as Pseudaelurus intrepidus by Leidy (1869), Cope (1880), Scott and Osborn (1890), Hay (1902), Rothwell (2003) and Rothwell (2004); it was recombined as Hyperailurictis intrepidus by Werdelin et al. (2010).
