Pseudotectus was named by Perner (1903) [Sepkoski's age data: D Gedi D Sieg Sepkoski's reference number: 362]. It is not extant. Its type is Pseudotectus carinatus.

It was assigned to Pseudophoridae by Knight et al. (1960); and to Archaeogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002).
