Cercopithecini was named by Gray (1825) [not the same as the "tribe" Cercopithecina of Gray 1825; authorship based on principle of coordination]. It is extant. It was considered monophyletic by Xing et al. (2005).
It was assigned to Cercopithecinae by Jablonski (2002), Xing et al. (2005) and Plavcan et al. (2019).
