Taxonomy
Simia aethiops was named by Linnaeus (1758). It is extant.

It was recombined as Simia (Cercopithecus) aethiops by Kerr (1792); it was recombined as Cercopithecus aethiops by Thomas (1911), Dandelot and Prévost (1972) and Butynski (2002); it was recombined as Chlorocebus aethiops by Tosi et al. (2004).
