Taxonomy
Tegula was named by Lesson (1835) [Sepkoski's age data: T Ol-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 554]. It is extant. Its type is Trochus pellisserpentis.

It was assigned to Monodontinae by Abbott (1974); to Trochidae by Durham (1944), Weisbord (1962), Addicott (1970) and Todd (2001); to Archaeogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Tegulinae by Kuroda et al. (1971), Bouchet et al. (2005), Squires and Saul (2005) and DeVries (2007).
