Trypanocochlea was named by Tomlin (1931) [Sepkoski's age data: P Leon-u Tr Nori Sepkoski's reference number: 797,1130]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Murchisoniidae by Knight et al. (1960); and to Archaeogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002).
