Tubina was named by Owen (1859) [Sepkoski's age data: D Sieg D Give Sepkoski's reference number: 362]. Its type is Tubina armata. It is the type genus of Tubinidae.

It was assigned to Archaeogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Tubinidae by Knight et al. (1960) and Bouchet et al. (2005).
