Taxonomy
Venericardia waikohuensis was named by Marwick (1931) [TYPE LOCALITY: Early Pliocene (Opoitian); North Island, New Zealand]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Venericardia (Venericardia) waikohuensis by Fleming (1966); it was recombined as Purpurocardia waikohuensis by Beu et al. (1990).
