Venericardia beata was named by Marwick (1928) [TYPE LOCALITY: Early Pliocene (Opoitian), Chatham Islands, New Zealand]. It is not a trace fossil.
It was recombined as Venericardia (Venericardia) beata by Fleming (1966); it was recombined as Purpurocardia beata by Beu et al. (1990).
