Tubomphalus was named by Perner (1903) [Sepkoski's age data: S u D Sieg Sepkoski's reference number: 362]. It is not extant. Its type is Tubomphalus crenistria.

It was reranked as Platyceras (Tubomphalus) by Knight et al. (1960).

It was assigned to Platyceras by Knight et al. (1960); and to Archaeogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002).
