Desmanodon major

Taxonomy
Desmanodon major was named by Engesser (1980). It is not extant. Its type specimen is NMB Esk. 23, a mandible (dext. with p3-m3). Its type locality is Yeni-Eskihisar, which is in a MN 7 + 8 terrestrial horizon in Turkey. It is the type species of Desmanodon.

Engesser 1980Typusart der neuen Genus Desmanodon mit grossen, massigen Molaren; Prämolaren (soweit bekannt) relative klein; p3 mit nur einer Wurzel; M1 annährend gleich gross wie m2; P4 dreiwurzeli'; Innen- und Hinterwurzel verwachsen; Anterolabialcingulum von m1 nur sehr schwach entwickelt; Trigonidsenke von m1 sehr seicht. Mandibelknochen relativ schmächtig. Humerus mit langer teres-Kante, breitem Schaft und sehr breitem Distalende.
