Desmanodon minor was named by Engesser (1980). It is not extant. Its type specimen is NMB Sar-2, a mandible (dext. with p3-m3). Its type locality is Saricay, which is in a MN 7 + 8 terrestrial horizon in Turkey.

Engesser 1980Neue Art der Gattung Desmanodon mit etwas kleineren Dimensionen als die Typusart, vor allem mit grazileren Molaren; Protoconus der oberen Molaren weniger massig. p3 mit zwei Wurzeln; m1 deutlich kleiner als m2. M3 mit weit vorstehenden Parastyl. Innen- und Hinterwurzel von P4 meist nicht verwachsen. p3 und p4 relativ gross; Mandibelknochen verhältnismässig kräftig. Humerus bedeutend kleiner und weniger spezialisiert als jener von D. major, mit vergleichweise kürzerer teres-Kante.
