Turbonopsis was named by Grabau and Shimer (1909) [Sepkoski's age data: D Emsi D Fras-u Sepkoski's reference number: 116,362]. It is not extant. Its type is Turbo shumardii.
It was assigned to Palaeotrochidae by Knight et al. (1960); and to Archaeogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002).
