Umbotropis was named by Perner (1903) [Sepkoski's age data: D Sieg Sepkoski's reference number: 362]. It is not extant. Its type is Umbotropis albicans.

It was assigned to Archaeogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Gosseletininae by Knight et al. (1960) and Wagner (2023).
