Taxonomy
Wortheniopsis was named by Böhm (1895) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Ladi Tr Nori]. Its type is Pleurotomaria margarethae.

It was corrected as Worthenopsis by Beede (1907); it was reranked as Pleurotomaria (Wortheniopsis) by Cowper Reed (1927).

It was assigned to Gastropoda by Beede (1907); to Pleurotomaria by Cowper Reed (1927); to Pithodeinae by Knight et al. (1960); and to Archaeogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002).
