Taxonomy
Neocricetodon was named by Schaub (1934) [The nomen nudum Neocricetodon Kretzoi (1930) was validated by Schaub (1934)]. It is not extant. Its type is Kowalskia polonica.

It was assigned to Cricetinae by Freudenthal et al. (1998).

M. Freudenthal et al. 1998Cricetinae of small to medium size. The anterolophulid of m1 is dominantly labial. Labial spur on the anterolophule of M1 frequently well-developed. There is a tendency to maintain the mesoloph(id)s, and the anterosinusid of m2.The third molars are not very much reduced, and may be elongated.
