Taxonomy
Venericardia alticostata hesperia was named by Gardner (1923) [DISTRIBUTION: Paleocene; Texas]. Its type specimen is USNM 352268, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Venericardia hesperia by Trowbridge (1932), Plummer (1933) and Gardner (1935); it was recombined as Venericardia (Glyptoactis) hesperia by Gardner and Bowles (1939); it was recombined as Venericardia (Baluchicardia) hesperia by Heaslip (1968).
