Taxonomy
Bucanospira was named by Ulrich and Scofield (1897) [Sepkoski's age data: S Wenl Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is the type genus of Bucanospirinae.

It was assigned to Trochonematidae by Ulrich and Scofield (1897); to Craspedostomatidae by Knight et al. (1960); to Architaenoglossa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Bucanospirinae by Bouchet et al. (2005).
