Spirina was named by Kayser (1889) [Sepkoski's age data: S Wenl D Give Sepkoski's reference number: 362]. It is not extant. Its type is Spirina brilonensis.

It was assigned to Craspedostomatidae by Knight et al. (1960); and to Architaenoglossa by Sepkoski (2002).
