Acirsa was named by Mörch (1857) [Sepkoski's age data: K Apti R Sepkoski's reference number: 157]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Acirsinae by Sohl (1964), Sohl (1964) and Kase (1984); to Epitoniidae by Palmer and Brann (1966), Todd (2001) and Wienrich (2001); and to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002).
