Eomoropidae was named by Matthew (1929).
It was reranked as the subfamily Eomoropinae by Colbert (1935) and Hough (1955); it was synonymized subjectively with Chalicotheriidae by Hooker and Dashzeveg (2004).
It was assigned to Chalicotheriidae by Colbert (1935) and Hough (1955); and to Chalicotherioidea by Holbrook (1999) and Missiaen and Gingerich (2012).

E. H. Colbert 1935 | Primitive and of small size. Quadrate, brachyodoni tmolars, with protoloph connecting protocone and metacone, and metaloph connecting paracone and hypocone; lower molars with a separate metastylid; third lower molar with a talonid. First upper premolar and both upper and lower canines present; lower canine more or less in series with the incisors; incisor formula variable. Manus tetradactyl; pes tridactyl; astragalus with or without a cuboid facet (in Grangeria and Eomoropus respectively). Metapodials and phalanges not highly modified as in the later chalicotheres. Limbs subequal in length. |
