Taxonomy
Ostrea freudenbergi was named by Hertlein and Jordan (1927) [DISTRIBUTION: Oligocene-Miocene; California.]. Its type specimen is CAS/SU 5138, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is LSJU Loc. 59, San Gregorio Lagoon, which is in a Miocene marine sandstone in the Isidro Formation of Mexico.
It was recombined as Striostrea freudenbergi by Moore (1987).
