Ostrea titan was named by Conrad (1853) [DISTRIBUTION: Miocene; California.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Ostrea (Crassostrea) titan by Dall (1909); it was recombined as Crassostrea titan by Stanton (1966) and Moore (1987).

Synonyms
  • Ostrea subjecta was named by Conrad (1857). Its type specimen is USNM 13338 and is a 3D body fossil.

    It was synonymized subjectively with Crassostrea titan by Moore (1987).
