Ostrea ashleyi was named by Hertlein (1943) [DISTRIBUTION: Oligocene-Miocene; California.]. Its type specimen is CAS 6065, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Crassostrea ashleyi by Moore (1987).

  • Ostrea altatemblorensis was named by Grant and Eaton in Eaton Grant and Allen (1941). Its type specimen is UCLA 8970 and is a 3D body fossil.
