Mactra tellinoides was named by Conrad (1831) [DISTRIBUTION: Late Pliocene-Recent; Nova Scotia-Florida. TYPE: Holotype (ANSP) missing.]. It is extant.
It was recombined as Cumingia tellinoides by Holmes (1860), Dall (1900), Abbott (1954), Richards (1962), Spencer and Campbell (1987) and Hendy et al. (2008).
