Alaba was named by Adams and A (1853) [Sepkoski's age data: K Camp R Sepkoski's reference number: 914]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Cerithiadae by Weisbord (1962); to Diastomatinae by Hoerle (1972); to Litiopinae by Gardner (1947), Wilson (1993) and Todd (2001); and to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002).
