Venus cancellata was named by Linnaeus (1767) [DISTRIBUTION: Recent; Caribbean.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Chione (Chione) cancellata by Palmer (1927), Olsson and Harbison (1953) and Woodring (1982); it was recombined as Venus (Chione) cancellata by Barrios (1960); it was recombined as Chione cancellata by Gray (1847), Holmes (1860), De Buisonjé (1974) and Coan and Valentich-Scott (2012).
