Allocosmia was named by Cossmann (1897) [Sepkoski's age data: P Guad-l J l Sepkoski's reference number: 1,1066].

It was reranked as Zygopleura (Allocosmia) by Haas (1953) and Yu et al. (1974).

It was assigned to Zygopleura by Haas (1953) and Yu et al. (1974); to Neotaenioglossa by Stiller (2001) and Sepkoski (2002); and to Zygopleuridae by Campbell (1982), Conti et al. (1986) and Conti et al. (2004).
